All Uni Mitsubishi Pencil
Many people may recall the distinctive shrimp-brown color of the “uni” pencil. The “uni” pencil has been a long-selling product loved by customers for nearly 50 years since its launch in 1958.
In recent years, the “uni” logo mark has gone beyond being the name of a single pencil and has been used as the brand name for all of our groundbreaking new products. Today, “uni” is used as the “corporate brand” for the company itself, Mitsubishi Pencil Corporation. As a “unique” company, which is the origin of the word “uni”, we will continue to develop products with fresh ideas and enrich people's lifestyles in Japan and around the world. We will continue to develop products with fresh ideas to enrich people's lifestyles.
In 1887 (Meiji 20), the founder Jinroku Masaki built a pencil factory powered by a waterwheel in Naito-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, and started pencil manufacturing. This was the “Masaki Pencil Factory,” the predecessor of Mitsubishi Pencil Co.
In October 2006, to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the company's founding, a “Pencil Monument” was erected in Naito-cho, Shinjuku-ku, where the company was founded, and donated to Shinjuku City. The foundation for the rapid spread of pencils in Japan and the history of the pencil, which has been loved for over 100 years, was born from this place.
