Saiboku Shinbi offers a wide range of expressive possibilities. These inks can be layered or blended, making them suitable for Japanese painting (Nihonga), sumi-e (ink wash painting), watercolour, and ink-colour art.

The two black ink sticks have distinct undertones—one with a bluish tint and the other with a brownish warmth—allowing you to create subtle variations in monochrome work. The coloured ink sticks use high-quality pigments that resist fading over time, delivering both brilliance and transparency or subdued tones, depending on your technique.
